What is BTX-A? Botulinum Toxin A is one of the seven types of acetylcholine-blocking neurotoxins, produced by Clostridium botulinum. BTX-A at therapeutic doses produces localized temporary reduction in muscle activity. Since its introduction for cosmetic use in 1990’s, BTX-A injection has become increasingly popular, as safe and efficient, temporary, method of facial rejuvenation. Is it dangerous? At the recommended doses it does not produce significant systemic effects and there are not reported long term adverse effects for cosmetic use of BTX-A. What dose BTX-A do? BTX-A solves a lot of aesthetic inconveniences, medical problems, including hiperhydroses and depressions, and has also a prophylactic role in wrinkles formations. The visible aesthetic effects on the face are the disappearance of the expressive wrinkles, like crow’s feet lines, glabellar rhythides, hotizontal forehead lines, perioral rhythides and “peau d’orange” chins. With BTX-A injections techniques you can also perform brow shaping, brow elevation, remodeling mouth shape. It has also a role in non-surgical approach to facial asymmetry and masseteric hypertrophy (mandible line). At neck it ameliorates the horizontal lines and the platysmal bands. On the chest, has a very good result on gravitational lines and on the wrinkles betwwn breasts. BTX-A injection are successfully used in treatment of hiperhydroses (excessive sweat), at axillae, palms, soles and face level. The last but not the least it has an amazing anti depressive effect, by increasing self confidence and the quality of life Moreover, it is used as a prophylaxis in the wrinkles formation at young people. For how long lasts its effect? Its effects lasts for 6-9 months, but for a nice result the second treatment must be performed in 3-4 months. The next treatment sessions must be at every 6-8 months. What does it happened, if you decide not to use it anymore? Nothing happens. The wrinkles, the changes in the face shape, and excessive sweat remains as before treatment. Which are the contradictions? Contradictions include the neuromuscular disorders that could intensify its effects. It is not recommended in pregnancy. Are any complications? There are a few complications and usually related to poot injection technique, but performed by a good physician, it is safe and effective method of rejuvenation. The unwanted effects can be fixed, in a new session in 2-3 weeks. Are BTX-A injections alone enough for a complete facial rejuvenation? BTX-A is the perfect solution for dynamic lines, but the ageing process is more complex. It includes gravitational changes, loose of subcutaneous fat, sun light skin damages and changes in bone and cartilage structure. BTX-A is used routinely as adjunctive therapy with soft-tissue augmentation, laser resurfacing, broadband light therapy and surgery, in order to increase the effects and duration of the results.
